It was also a chance for the coaching staff to get a feel for how players react to a live game atmosphere.

Defensive coordinator Adam Fuller, offensive coordinator Alex Atkins and special teams coordinator John Papuchis spoke with the media post-scrimmage and gave some insight into how it went.

Here are a few takeaways from the event:

Defensive coordinator Adam Fuller

--DE Patrick Payton is "the most improved player on the team" and has developed physically with strength and size. Says that DE coach John Papuchis and OL coach Odell Haggins have done an outstanding job at developing him

-- They're playing all the returning DBs at nickel and corner because it helps build depth throughout the season, and Greedy Vance has continued to play at a high level and has put on good size

--They have the depth now to play players at multiple positions in multiple fronts more effectively, particularly DT and DE

-- Redshirt junior Dennis Briggs Jr. has not hit his ceiling yet and that he sees an NFL player in him, adding that Gilber Edmond is very far from his ceiling and both are going to help FSU win football games

Offensive coordinator Alex Atkins

-- RB Rodney Hill looks comfortable and confident. Had a great scrimmage and has a chance to be exceptional in the future

-- Atkins said they "didn't hold anything back" with the underclassmen quarterbacks and that some things still need to be cleaned up, but he likes what he's seen so far. Freshman Brock Glenn handled the live-action a lot better than he expected him to

-- The offensive line needs to do a better job of coming out and establishing the run early, but as the scrimmage progressed, they were able to wear the defensive line down

Special teams coordinator and DE coach John Papuchis

-- DE Patrick Payton is starting to become an every-down player with increased size and is on the right path in his development

-- FSU is working in multiple guys like DB Azareye'h Thomas, WR Winston Wright, WR Vandrevius Jacobs, and WR Ja'Khi Douglas quality reps at returner with the absence of WR Mycah Pittman

-- The kicking completion is in full effect, and the numbers will be the biggest judging point moving forward
