Florida State head coach Mike Norvell talks leadership, returning players after first day in pads

In this story:
Week one of Florida State's spring camp is in the books, and the pads came on for the Seminoles' final practice before heading into a week-long spring break.
There is a lot of buzz in Tallahassee as FSU prepares for another breakout season in 2023. Heisman Trophy winner and National Champion Jameis Winston, along with New York Jets defensive end Jermaine Johnson II and former safety Jammie Robinson attended Friday's practice. More FSU greats should be on campus as the Noles host a major recruiting this weekend during the break.
Head coach Mike Norvell along with wide receiver Winston Wright Jr., Derrick McLendon and Greedy Vance, met with the media on Friday to discuss their first week of spring ball and dove deeper into the roster that is filled with incoming talent and veterans alike.
"With all the things leading up to it, I thought they came out with a great mindset. There are a lot of things we need to clean up on; there were some sloppy moments. But the competitive spirit; I heard some pads popping, there are some times I want to challenge guys." Norvell said when talking about the first day in pads this spring.
Having former players and NFL stars is essential for coach Norvell, and with this major upcoming recruiting weekend, he seemed excited to have them back on campus.
"There were some former players that were back. Jameis (Winston) got a chance to talk to the team afterward. Tomorrow we get to celebrate Jermaine (Johnson) and his All-American brick. It is great having some of these guys back and having them around the program."
Norvell goes over the importance of spring camp, players fighting for positions on the depth chart, and more in his full interview below.
