Florida State OL Casey Roddick Describes Team's Mindset Ahead Of Season-Opener Against LSU

In this story:
As the Seminoles prepare for Sunday’s game against LSU, the mentality of the team has never been stronger. The expectations for the team are high going into the season, in part due to the fact Florida State had one of the top transfer classes in the nation. The team is full of veteran players who have played lots of football, but not necessarily at Florida State.
Redshirt senior offensive lineman Casey Roddick is one of those transfers. With 30 starts in 42 games as a member of the Colorado Buffaloes, Roddick is no stranger to Division 1 football. While this may be his sixth season playing at the college level, Roddick noted he has still learned a lot during fall camp.
“I got to learn a lot about myself as a player, but also as a leader more importantly," Roddick said.
A team’s identity can only be found with hard work and time, and that is exactly what fall camp is all about. Whether it was on the field, in the weight room, or watching film, the Seminoles were in it together, and Roddick noted the team just keeps going.
“One thing about this team is we are relentless. Every single day is a fight,” Roddick said.
The excitement surrounding Sunday's game against the Tigers in Orlando’s Camping World Stadium, which holds over 60,000 people is real, but according to Roddick, the team is just locked in and focused on winning the game.
“90,000, 60,000, 70,000, it doesn’t really matter at the end of the day. You have to lock into who’s in front of you and what your specific details are throughout that snap.”
The Seminoles are certainly locked in on gameday, with a hurricane on the verge of doing catastrophic damage to Tallahassee, and an abnormal Sunday night game time forcing the team to adapt to a very interesting situation.
“The work stays the work at the end of the day. Regardless of what the scenarios are, you have to adapt to it," Roddick said.
The no-distraction mentality Florida State has maintained throughout camp has been a defining factor of the team, as they have not let the preseason hype and now a hurricane distract them from Sunday’s game.
Roddick added that Florida State doesn’t fool around when it comes to intensity, and he has grown exponentially as a player since his arrival.
“If you want to work then you gotta come here. If you want to sweat, if you want to bleed then you’re gonna come here, and you’re gonna be very successful.”
