Florida State Tight End Kyle Morlock Feels Like The Offense Is Finding Its Stride

Morlock was an essential piece in filling the void of three injured receivers in a big win against the Demon Deacons.

The Florida State Seminoles are continuing their climb to the top and after last week’s road victory over Wake Forest, the ‘Noles once again find themselves as the leading contenders for a spot in the ACC title game.

While the Seminoles have had a strong start to the season, they played their last game without two starting receivers in Destyn Hill and Johnny Wilson, and without true freshman Hykeem Williams, who has been a rising star for FSU.

The void in the receiving lineup was filled not just by the depth of the receiver room, but by the running backs and tight ends who all saw more targets in Winston-Salem.

Tight end Kyle Morlock, who transferred from Shorter University in the offseason, continues to play an increased role for the team week after week. At Wake Forest, Morlock had two receptions for 45 yards, including a 32-yard catch.

Morlock’s improvement throughout the season is greatly in part due to his being able to understand the why, or why certain things are being done. As Morlock continues to know the why, his improvement will continue to show on the field.

“Being able to understand why we’re doing this stuff just helps you transition what you’re doing on the field, because if you understand why you’re doing it, then you can really realize leverages and stuff like that and it’ll all start to click and become a lot better,” Morlock said.

While the Seminoles struggled earlier in the season with pass blocking, Morlock noted the biggest issue was not everybody was on the same page. Over the past few weeks, there has been a significant increase in the FSU passing game, and Morlock thinks it’s because everyone is settling in.

“Getting everyone on the same page and comfortable with everyone running the exact same play because that’s been a little bit of an issue for us in the pass game, everyone just wasn’t on the same page. When we get everybody on the same page, everything just flows a lot better."

Morlock’s journey to becoming an essential part of one of the nation's top offenses hasn’t exactly been traditional, to say the least. Morlock spent three seasons at the D2 level before entering the transfer portal as a four-star prospect. This weekend Morlock will play in an NFL stadium for the first time as Acrisure Stadium is also the home field for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“I mean they’re a solid defense, they play some different looks at defensive end and stuff so we’re getting used to that in practice, but just like every other week we see what we got, we prepare for it and then we’re ready on Saturday,” Morlock said.

“It’s super exciting, I’m super pumped to go up there,” Morlock added.

The Seminoles and Panthers will face off on Saturday, November 4th. The game will be shown on ESPN with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 ET.
