Florida State head coach Mike Norvell recaps first practice after spring break: "I want to play faster"

Florida State head coach Mike Norvell met with the media Tuesday evening after the team's first football practice coming off a week-long Spring Break. Shining light on and highlighting some of the standout newcomers, he also spoke about the team's attitude after such a long time away from practice and that he wanted more tempo.

"It was good to get back out today. I thought guys had good spirit. I thought there was some good physicality that showed up. The one thing, I wouldn't say disappointed, but I want to see a better sense of tempo," Norvell said. "Sometimes when you are coming back and getting into the swing of practice. We are getting good work in. We've got some newcomers. We have got 19 guys that this is their first time being here at Florida State, being a part of our practice and so, really just pushing the tempo of how we operate and how we communicate. I want to play faster."

There were a few interceptions at practice and the majority of them came from newcomers. Norvell spoke about their abilities and remarked on the turnovers.

"It's great to see. I know K.J. (Kirkland) had an interception. Quin (Quindarrius Jones) had an interception. Fentrell (Cypress) had an interception today. So those three guys are all newcomers joining the program and it is great to see them come out and be able to make an impact in practice," said Norvell. "I like what I'm seeing from all those. Still trying to figure out quite a but it is good to see those positive flashes and obviously those moments showing up."

Another position group that stood out was the wide receivers, especially the ones new to FSU.

"I thought Vandrevious (Jacobs) and Hykeem (Williams) had great days today. For them to come off of spring break, you know, to jump in, both of them had some big plays in big moments and that's always good to see."

Norvell goes further into practice, the upcoming scrimmage and depth in his full interview below.

Along with Norvell, defensive lineman Joshua Farmer and running back Lawrance Toafili stopped by to talk about the depth they have up front and their eagerness for 2023.
