Rich Eisen Believes FSU Football Should Have Been Out Of College Football Playoff

In this story:
Rich Eisen, host of the “Rich Eisen Show” on the Roku Channel gave his take concerning whether the College Football Playoff (CFP) Committee got the top four teams right. Within his analysis, Eisen mentioned the 63-3 defeat Florida State suffered against Georiga, as well as the two CFP semifinal games that came down to the last play.
FSU players, coaches, fans, and even average college football enjoyers felt that the Seminoles were snubbed from the Playoff after boasting an undefeated record and a Power Five conference championship.
However – in Eisen’s view – simply looking at the box scores of the three games in question was enough evidence to declare that the Committee made the right call in selecting Alabama and Texas (both teams with one loss) over Florida State, even though both teams in question lost in their respective games.
ESPN Analyst Calls FSU Football’s Performance Against Georgia Bulldogs A ‘Disgrace’
“We watched Georgia set a new record for largest margin of victory in the history of college football bowl games … And I’m sitting there watching Florida State thinking to myself, well, they’re missing all these folks who decided to transfer portal out because they’re like, I’m not sticking around in a spot that’s undefeated, doesn’t get a shot in the College Football Playoff, even though there’s eight more teams coming in next year, didn’t make too much sense, but then again, that’s their world,” said Eisen.
Eisen admitted that FSU fielding mostly second and third-stringers against a near-full strength UGA “may be a reason” they lost by a historic margin. He still maintained that he “can’t really argue” with the Committee’s decision to leave Florida State out.
“So for whatever reason, Florida State was missing all those people and that may be a reason why they lost by 60 … But even though Georgia was attempting to make a statement, I have to say, can’t really argue at the end of the day with what the College Football Playoff Committee came up with if the metric is in fact we need competition,” Eisen said.
He continued by almost sounding like a boxing promoter, saying that the prospective entertainment factor of matchups should reign supreme as the most important set of criteria.
“We want watchable competition. We want exciting competition. And we want – if we could have one of the two games come down to the last snap, we’ll take that. How does both games coming down to the last snap – try that one on for size,” said the show’s host.
Near the end of the rant, Eisen proclaimed that a revisit to the conversation proves the Committee right.
“So, you just got to revisit the conversation from a month ago and say I guess they got it right … you got to give it up because both of those games were incredible,” concluded Eisen.
Despite the close scores, Seminole apologists weren’t impressed by the quarterback play from Alabama’s starter Jalen Milroe in the Rose Bowl. He had only 116 yards passing. Those who were against letting Florida State in the Playoff worried that a lack of talent at the quarterback position would make for a less entertaining semifinal game.
In the Orange Bowl, third-stringer Brock Glenn threw for 139 yards, 23 yards more than Milroe.
