The Florida State Seminoles are taking on one of their top rivals in the second-to-last game at Doak Campbell Stadium in 2023. The Seminoles entered the contest as heavy favorites against a Hurricanes team that has struggled over the last couple of weeks.

While FSU's first drive of the afternoon resulted in a punt, it helped set up a successful second possession. Alex Mastromanno's 52-yard boot pinned the Hurricanes at their own two-yard line, forcing true freshman Emory Williams to take his first snap of the game in the shadows of his own goalpost.

The poor field position resulted in a quick three-and-out as Florida State went back to work just shy of midfield. It looked like the Seminoles would strike quickly as running back Trey Benson fielded a pitch from quarterback Jordan Travis and exploded up the sideline for a 46-yard scoring run.

The play sent Doak Campbell Stadium into an uproar of celebration until it was ruled that Benson stepped out of bounds on the scamper. It wouldn't end up mattering as Travis connected with Markeston Douglas and Jaheim Bell to move the Seminoles into a goal-to-go scenario.

Facing second and goal from the five, Benson took a handoff up the middle and powered his way towards the end zone. The running back ended up getting some assistance from his offensive line, literally, as Bless Harris dragged him past the goal line for a touchdown.

The Seminoles drew first blood against the Hurricanes with the scoring run as Benson led the way with five carries for 19 yards and his touchdown. Travis has opened up the contest by completing five of his seven passes for 54 yards.

Florida State leads Miami 7-0 as the opening quarter begins to wind down.
