Jacksonville Jaguars Signing Former FSU Football National Champion
The Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed to terms with former Florida State defensive back Ronald Darby to a 2-year deal worth a maximum of $10 million, per Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report. Darby spent the 2023 season with the Baltimore Ravens.
Jacksonville will be Darby's 6th team in his NFL career. He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills with the 50th overall pick in the 2nd round of the 2015 NFL Draft, placing second in the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year voting behind Marcus Peters. He spent two seasons there before being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles for wide receiver Jordan Matthews and a 2018 3rd round pick. He won a Super Bowl in his first year in Philadelphia, the only one of his career thus far, and re-signed with the Eagles on a 1-year deal in 2019.
Following the 2019 season, Darby started to bounce around the league. He signed a 1-year deal with $3 million with the now-called Washington Commanders, signed a 3-year, $30 million deal with the Denver Broncos but was cut after playing just 16 games with them, and signed a 1-year, $1.7 million deal with the Ravens this past year after they had some injuries to their defensive backfield. He's had 8 interceptions in his NFL career, but hasn't had one since 2019 with the Eagles.
Darby will now return to the state where he played college football to find some footing with the Jaguars. He had originally signed with FSU as a 5-star in the 2012 recruiting class out of Oxon Hill, Maryland. While at Florida State, Darby played for three seasons from 2012-2014, finishing with 78 total tackles, 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, and 16 pass deflections. He was a big part of the dominant secondary that helped Florida State win a national championship in the 2013 season, joining Lamarcus Joyner, Jalen Ramsey, and PJ Williams, who would all go on to have success in the NFL.
