Jordan Travis Endorses Former Five-Star Prospect After First Season With FSU Football

The progression of this young rising star could be paramount in the success of FSU's offense in 2024.

Florida State's roster is littered with talented, yet unproven, prospects who could develop into key pieces for the 2024 season. Whether it's through the transfer portal or out of the high school, there are certain positions on both sides of the ball where the Seminoles need someone to emerge and take on a sizable role.

There is a hole to fill at wide receiver with Johnny Wilson and Keon Coleman making the leap to the NFL. While there are some veterans in the mix to follow in their footsteps, at least one promising underclassman - former five-star recruit and rising sophomore Hykeem Williams - is in line to push for a starting job.

Williams is coming off his first year in Tallahassee. After a challenging offseason and spring, he finally began to show why he was such a coveted prospect out of high school throughout the fall. He strung together an impressive stretch of practices while also scoring the first touchdown of his college career against Syracuse.

Former Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis had plenty of positive things to say about Williams while he was addressing the media at the NFL Combine. Travis believes that the young receiver was the 'most improved player' on the team last season.

"That's my guy. He's a hard worker. I feel like he was the most improved player last year on Florida State and I've said that to a lot of people. Seeing him at the beginning, I used to joke on him because he used to be so tired during conditioning. He used to blame everything and say his back was hurt or this was hurt. Just seeing his improvement throughout his first freshman year, I mean, just seeing him grow mentally. Physically, he's getting faster. It's going to be a special year for sure."

Williams possesses an intriguing blend of size and athleticism that could help him develop into a star with the Seminoles. He began to hone in on his route-running, consistency, and conditioning in 2023. That progress could lead to even bigger strides now that he understands what is expected out of him to get on the field at Florida State.

The Florida native appeared in eight games last year, catching five passes for 80 yards and a touchdown. His 44-yard catch-and-run that turned into a score was Florida State's third-longest touchdown of the season. He was sidelined by a lower-body injury during the middle of the campaign, missing a crucial stretch as the Seminoles went on a 13-0 run and won the ACC Championship.

The 6-foot-2, 208-pound wide receiver returned for the Orange Bowl and played a season-high 31 snaps in the contest. Now, the chase continues as Williams tries to reach his vast ceiling in garnet and gold.

The endorsement from one of the top players in Florida State history isn't a bad way to get started.
