NBA Summer League Recap For The Trio Of Former FSU Standouts Who Shined In Las Vegas

In this story:
For nearly the past two weeks, basketball has been alive and well in the Sin City during the 2023 Las Vegas NBA Summer League. The action wrapped up on Monday night with the Cleveland Cavaliers taking down the Houston Rockets.
Florida State was well represented with three former standouts vying to secure their respective futures in the NBA. Fourth-year forward Mfiondu Kabengele (Atlanta Hawks), third-year forward RaiQuan Gray (Brooklyn Nets), and second-year forward John Butler (Portland Trail Blazers) all had their moments to shine.

Kabengele led the trio with averages of 8.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.8 blocks in 19.3 minutes per game over five appearances. He shot 54.2% from the field, 36.4% from three-point range, and 71.4% from the line. Kabengele scored a summer league high 13 points on two occasions as the Hawks finished 3-2. He's still looking for a deal with an NBA club for the upcoming season.
Gray averaged 7.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, in 18.9 minutes per game over five appearances. He shot 37.2% from the field, 23.1% from three-point range, and 100% from the line. Gray scored a summer league high 12 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and one block in a loss to the Cavaliers. An 0/9 shooting performance against the Milwaukee Bucks hurt his shooting averages. Gray is expected to play for the Nets on a two-way deal in 2023-24.
Butler averaged 4.3 points, 2.0 rebounds, 0.5 blocks, and 0.5 steals in 11.8 minutes per game over five appearances. He shot 54.5% from the field, 66.7% from three, and 50% from the line. Butler had three different outings where he was able to tie a summer league high of five points. He is signed to play for the Portland Trail Blazers in 2023-24 on a two-way deal for the second consecutive season.
Former Florida State point guard and 2012 ACC Champion Luke Loucks guided the Sacramento Kings to a 5-2 record during summer league action in Las Vegas and Sacramento. Fellow former Seminole Deividas Dulkys was at his side as an assistant coach.
Another former FSU standout - center Christ Koumadje - was expected to play for the Trail Blazers in Las Vegas. He ultimately did not appear on the team's roster when the games began earlier in July.
