Philadelphia Eagles Cut Former Florida State Defensive Tackle

The former Seminole will be looking for a new franchise to call home.

The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off a Super Bowl appearance and are looking for more in 2023. Over the weekend, the Eagles added a couple of talented players to their roster, including former Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter with the No. 9 overall pick.

The addition of Carter made at least one returning player expendable.

On Sunday afternoon, the Eagles announced that they were cutting former Florida State defensive tackle Marvin Wilson. He spent the last two seasons with Philadelphia as a member of the active roster and practice squad.

Wilson went undrafted in the 2021 NFL Draft and landed with the Cleveland Browns. After being waived by the Browns at the conclusion of training camp, the Eagles signed him to their practice squad. Wilson made his debut in the final week of the regular-season against the Dallas Cowboys and recorded three total tackles.

The Texas native returned to the Eagles this past season and spent the majority of his time on the practice squad. He did appear in a victory against the Houston Texans and recorded four total tackles. Philadelphia still has former Seminoles such as defensive end Joshua Sweat, defensive end Janarius Robinson, and offensive lineman Roderick Johnson on its roster.

The 6-foot-4, 303-pound defensive tackle was regarded as one of the top prospects in his class when he signed with Florida State in 2017 under former head coach Jimbo Fisher. Wilson joined the Seminoles at a rough time in program history as ended up playing for three different head coaches in his four years in Tallahassee.

Wilson struggled in his final season under Norvell but recorded a combined 85 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles in 2018-19. He was named First-Team All-ACC in 2019 and Second-Team All-ACC in 2020.

With teams able to have 90 players on their roster during the offseason, it wouldn't be surprising if another franchise picks him up.
