On Sunday, former FSU offensive lineman Zane Herring announced that he was committing to USF. Herring will be staying in the Sunshine State to continue his college career after three seasons with the Seminoles.

USF named former Tennessee offensive coordinator Alex Golesh as its next head coach back in December. Golesh is in the process of attempting to flip the roster and is bringing in close to nearly 40 newcomers for the 2023 season. That includes transfers such as Florida running back Nay'Quan Wright and Florida defensive end Lloyd Summerall

Herring originally committed to former head coach Willie Taggart but still signed with the Seminoles when Mike Norvell took over the program. He redshirted during his first year in Tallahassee while dealing with an injury before appearing in 15 games over the last two seasons. That included 13 appearances this past season as a reserve offensive guard and a member of the field-goal unit.

The local product out of Madison County wasn't expected to be among the two-deep on Florida State's offensive line. The Seminoles added interior linemen Casey Roddick and Keiondre Jones out of the transfer portal a couple of months ago. The program also learned that starting guard D'Mitri Emmanuel received a waiver for another year of eligibility during the course of spring practice.

Standing at 6-foot-5, 315 pounds, the rising redshirt junior is anticipated to have three years of eligibility remaining at the college level since his first season was affected by injuries and the COVID-19 pandemic.

With Herring's departure, Florida State still holds 17 scholarship offensive linemen. That includes Roddick, Jones, Emmanuel, Robert Scott, Maurice Smith, Darius Washington, Bless Harris, and Jeremiah Byers, who have started a combined 207 games at the FBS level entering 2023.
