FSU Loses Out On Five-Star Wide Receiver To Miami But This Recruitment Might Not Be Over Just Yet

In this story:
There have been a couple of recruits that have come out of nowhere with decisions throughout July. Earlier in the month, five-star wide receiver Cam Coleman chose Texas A&M over Florida State and Auburn.

On Thursday, the Seminoles lost out on another one of the top wide receivers in the country as five-star prospect Joshisa 'JoJo' Trader announced his commitment to Miami. Trader is one of Florida State's top targets in the 2024 class and don't expect the coaching staff to let up in their pursuit now that he's off the board.
FSU is now big game hunting for three wide receivers that are committed to other programs in Trader (Miami), Coleman (Texas A&M), and Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State). The Seminoles do have five blue-chip prospects already pledged in #Tribe24 - four-star Elijah Moore, four-star Camdon Frier, four-star BJ Gibson, four-star Lawayne McCoy, and four-star TJ Abrams.
Trader has visited Tallahassee twice during the year and was recently on campus for Florida State's Elite Camp in June. He didn't work out during the event but did get to spend quality time around the coaching staff.
Though Trader is now verbally committed to Miami, this recruitment might not be over just yet. After all, Florida State is expected to host him for an official visit at some point during the fall, possibly even when the Hurricanes come to town in November.
The Seminoles also have some other factors running in their favor. True freshman defensive back Edwin Joseph was a high school teammate of Trader. Plus, he's got a solid connection with head coach Mike Norvell and wide receivers coach Ron Dugans.
Trader expressed during a prior visit that he's looking to see Florida State have a successful season in 2023. If the Seminoles make a playoff push while Miami falters once again, it may be enough to convince him to reconsider his decision.
"Win games. I want to see them win a national championship, actually," Trader said previously. "They can win it and if I do go here, if I come in and play, I would like to win it too."
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound wide receiver is regarded as the No. 25 overall prospect, the No. 3 ATH, and the No. 5 prospect in the state of Florida in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.
