College football analyst Greg McElroy recently stated that he was not dismissing the possibility of the Georgia Bulldogs finishing 7-5 in 2026.

The 2026 college football season is still months away as teams beginning preparing for spring camps. However, the lack of games taking place over the next few months has not resulted in a lack of expectations for multiple programs across the country.

One program many will be paying attention to this season is the Georgia Bulldogs, who are looking for their third national title under head coach Kirby Smart. The Dawgs are tabbed by many as a national title contender and are expected to preform well in the regular season.

But while expectations are high in Athens, there is one college football analyst who is not ruling out the possibility of disaster for Georgia in 2026. During a radio segment on WJOX 94.5 FM, ESPN analyst Greg McElroy stated his belief that a 7-5 record was possible for the Dawgs this season.

"I think of all team's in the SEC, they [Georgia] are the least likely, by a decent sized margin to go 7-5," said McElroy. "I just think in a world in which you have an injury, you have a ball bounce the other way, you lose a guy or two here or there, or the O-line struggles. These things can start snowballing."

While McElroy's comments could be perceived as disbelief in Georgia ahead of the 2026 season, the analyst made sure to reiterate that he did not think the unimpressive record was the likely outcome for Kirby Smart's team heading into the year.

The ESPN analyst also clarified his statement by following with the claim that 9-3 is the much more realistic floor for the Bulldogs. However, he did not completely dismiss the possibility that Georgia could finish 7-5 by the end of the season.

The sentiment that 7-5 is possible likely stems from the fact that the SEC has adopted a nine-game conference schedule ahead of the 2026 season. Many experts believe this will increase the rigor of all 16 teams in the conference and make losses more likely.

Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs have not lost more than three games in a regular season since the coach's first year with the program in 2016. The Bulldogs finished that season with a record of 7-5 and were defeated in the final seconds in three matchups.

While statistically speaking, a 7-5 record would be possible for Georgia in 2026, the Bulldogs are much more likely to be competing for a College Football Playoff spot and potentially a national championship by the end of the season.
