FINAL: Alabama Ends Georgia's Winning Streak Winning the SEC Championship 27-24

Tuscaloosa, AL will be an uproar tonight as Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide have knocked off the Georgia Bulldogs to win the SEC Championship and end the Bulldogs' 29-game winning streak.

The SEC is celebrating a new champion this evening as the Alabama Crimson Tide and Nick Saban have taken down the Georgia Bulldogs and Kirby Smart by a final score of 27-24. The Tide ends Georgia's long winning streak of 29 games, which ties Saban and the Tide for the longest winning streak in SEC history. First Quarter

First Quarter

The Bulldogs defense stood tall on the opening drive. Forcing a quick three-and-out to set up a touchdown drive that was capped off by Kendall Milton. The defense followed that up with another three and out. The defense would eventually allow a score as a Bama field goal would cut Georgia’s lead to 7-3.

Second Quarter

The second quarter began with Alabama scoring a touchdown to take a 10-7 lead over Georgia. The Dawgs would attempt a field goal of their own but would miss and the score would remain 7-10. The Tide would extend its lead with a minute left in the first half to go up 17-7.

Third Quarter

In what is shaping up to be a major defensive battle, Georgia made the first critical mistake late in the third quarter, fumbling in their own end which wound up in three points for the Crimson Tide. Thanks to an Arian Smith explosive to start the first drive of the second half, however, Georgia was able to put some point on the board. Georgia entered the fourth quarter down 20 to 10.

Fourth Quarter

The defensive game looked as if it was going to continue as both teams captured a sack against opposing offenses to start the quarter, but a 31-yard punt return by Anthony Evans and Georgia's special teams grew some momentum for the Dawgs. Both offenses woke up following that play. Georgia scored a touchdown, followed by a long Alabama touchdown drive that was then answered again by a quick touchdown scoring drive from the Dawgs, making it 27-24 Bama with 2:52 left in the quarter. It was not enough for Georgia, though, as a strong run game ended the game for the Crimson Tide, as they win 27-24.

Georgia will now wait for Sunday afternoon when the CFP selection committee decides who will get in for the 2023 College Football Playoffs and who will be seeded where. With their loss, Georgia is hoping to sneak into the fourth spot or have Michigan and/or Florida State lose tonight in the later games. They will hope for one of the teams to lose to help their case sneak in over Ohio State, Texas, and even Alabama, who they just lost to in this SEC Championship game.
