Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart revealed one of his transfers is dealing with an injury. So here is what it means for the Bulldogs.

The Georgia Bulldogs are nearly halfway through spring practice up to this point and head coach Kirby Smart met with the media on Tuesday to provide an update on his team. One of the updates he provided was that defensive back transfer Ja'Marley Riddle is dealing with an injury and isn't able to do a whole at this moment.

RIddle was expected to be an immediate impact transfer for the Bulldogs, so what does that mean for Georgia?

How Ja'Marley Riddle's Injury Impacts Georgia's Depth Chart at Safety

For starters, it does provide some clarity around the safety position. Everyone knew KJ Bolden would be one of the starting safeties, but who would be playing next to him? Riddle was expected to be one of the names fighting for that role, but with him on the sideline for now, it opens up the door for others.

Zion Branch is a returning player from last year's team who could certainly be the other starter, but if it's not him, it likely would be Clemson transfer Khalil Barnes. Whoever is named the starter though, it's likely that the player behind them would be coming off the bench rather quickly on Saturdays during the fall.

Other players who are likely taking reps at safety are Rasean Dinkins and Todd Robinson. The assumption is Dinkins will play STAR, but Georgia has also been known to cross train their players at both positions, so they are likely doing the same with Dinkins during spring practice.

It should be noted that just because Riddle is not able to compete for reps right now, it doesn't mean fans won't see him this fall. He very well could be ready to go by the time the season rolls around, or at least ready to play at some point in the season. However, as far as what the depth chart looks like during the spring, this is would be my guess.

Riddle was a star during his time at East Carolina and the good news for Georgia is that he came to Athens with multiple years of eligibility. So even if Georgia doesn't get to see as much of Riddle as they hoped for this year, they still have next college football season to hope for.
