L.A. Rams HC Updates Former Georgia QB Stetson Bennett's Status With Team

Sean McVay, the Los Angeles Rams head coach, has updated the status of their fourth-round quarterback from the 2023 NFL Draft.

One of the biggest college football stories was a story that lived in Athens, GA., for three years and brought two national championships to the University of Georgia Bulldogs. Stetson Bennett saw his career take off during those two national championship seasons, leading him to become a fourth-round draft pick by the Los Angeles Rams.

After a promising preseason with the Rams, the former Georgia QB saw his tenure with the team end due to unknown circumstances. With their season having come to a close, Rams HC Sean McVay has updated the status of his return with the team. He held a press conference last Wednesday in which he was asked about Bennett's return.

"You know, I don't know that. I think that's a conversation for another time. I think he's doing better, but I wouldn't be in a position to answer that accurately right now."

The former Burlsworth Trophy winner hasn't had much publicity around him since he departed from the Rams but has been back to the University of Georgia to support his alma mater. Bennett was in line for the backup job behind another fellow UGA alumni, Matthew Stafford.

Since Bennett was not with the team anymore, Brett Rypien became Los Angeles' backup but was eventually cut, and they signed Carson Wentz to back up Stafford, who has dealt with an injury-prone career, yet had a healthy and good season leading the Rams to an unexpected playoff berth.

The presence of Bennett with L.A. in 2024 will ultimately decide how the team handles their quarterback room moving into next season with a possibility lurking that Stafford is nearing retirement within the next few seasons.
