Sammy Brown Talks Georgia, Sets Timeline for Commitment

The nation's top-ranked inside linebacker Sammy Brown is the middle of both track season and spring football. He stopped to chat about the latest in his recruitment and where Georgia stands.

The University of Georgia is no stranger to Jefferson High School in Northeast, Georgia. In fact, just 30 minutes from downtown Athens, the Dragons of Jefferson, Georgia most recently produced Georgia freshman All-American Malaki Starks.

It didn't take long for the AAAAA football program to find itself the host of yet another monstrous prospect and recruitment in the form of Sammy Brown. Brown, a 6'2", 230-pound senior linebacker is the consensus No. 1 linebacker in the country for the class of 2023, and for good reason.

The 33" arm toting, 10.7 100-meter running, 600-pound squatting, mullet-having linebacker is perhaps the most physically gifted recruit we've seen on the trail since his former teammate Malaki Starks, who boasts the school and 5A state record in the 100-meter at 10.55.  This is a football player that as a junior averaged 16.5 carries per game and 10.2 tackles per game. They simply don't make athletes like this often.

A consummate professional in his approach to not only the game of football, Brown has also shown tremendous professionalism in his approach to his recruitment. It's been a rather quiet process for Brown, one that he hopes is wrapped up prior to his senior season so he can focus on the task at hand... winning a state title.

We spoke with him following practice Tuesday morning about where he stands in his recruitment and which schools are standing out the most and why.

Brown has it narrowed down to five schools, with all of his official visits already set for this summer. "I've kind of narrowed it down to five Tennessee, Clemson, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Ohio State," Brown said. "That's kind of that's the officials I have set right now. So that's kind of the five I've been focusing on."

With Georgia being the home state football team, there's been quite a lot of buzz surrounding the two-time defending champs, a football program that's produced plenty of NFL-caliber linebackers under Glenn Schumann.

"That's probably one of my best relationships. You know, Coach Shuman, Georgia offered me the spring of my freshman year. So I've been talking to Coach Schumann for almost two and a half years now. And so that's just been a really good relationship to have and just keep building and he's a really good guy and a really good coach." - Sammy Brown on Glenn Schumann and Georgia

Brown noted that he'd be back on campus for his official visit the second weekend of June with aspirations of making his final decision in the first week of July.
