After a record-breaking redshirt freshman campaign, Georgia first baseman Charlie Condon was named SEC Freshman of the Year on Monday.

In his first season of college baseball, the Marietta, GA native quickly established himself as one of the premier hitters in the nation and never slowed down, finishing the regular season with a .393 batting average, 81 hits, and 67 RBI. His 25 home runs were the second-highest total among all SEC players in 2023 and amounted to an SEC freshman record, breaking the previous mark of 22. Condon's 25 home runs were also the second-highest single-season home run total for a Georgia player in the history of the program, behind the 28 home runs Gordon Beckham hit in 2008 en route to the College World Series finals. His .393 batting average leads all Georgia hitters and ranks him third among all players in the SEC.  The freshman phenom also put together a 24-game hit streak along with a 37-game on-base streak earlier in the season.

Condon had previously been named to the Freshmen All-SEC team and was a second-team All-SEC selection at first base. The freshman slugger is Georgia's first Freshman of the Year since the award was first established by the league in 2000.

Despite Condon's heroics, the Bulldogs concluded a disappointing 29-26 (11-19) regular season by dropping a home series to No.5 LSU over the weekend. Scott Sticklin's squad only managed to win three of its 10 SEC series over the course of the season. Georgia is set to square off against No.6 seed South Carolina on Tuesday at 9:30 am in Hoover, Alabama in the first round of the SEC Baseball Tournament. The Bulldogs must win their first game on Tuesday in order to advance to the double-elimination portion of the SEC Tournament.
