Georgia Baseball's Charlie Condon Chasing After SEC Glory

Georgia baseball redshirt freshman Charlie Condon is on the verge of SEC glory.

Georgia baseball hasn't exactly had the season they were hoping for as they sit with a 27-21 record and a 10-14 record in conference play with a few weeks left in the season, but there have still been some major bright spots this year for the diamond Dawgs. Most recently they won the series against Tennessee, a Top 25 team. They also swept Arkansas earlier in the season which is ranked inside the top five currently.

From a roster standpoint though, one player in particular has taken over the spotlight, and he has done so in his first season as a collegiate player.. Charlie Condon has been on an absolute tear this season after he redshirted in 2022. This season for the Bulldogs, Condon maintained a .401 batting average, batted in 61 total runs, and to top it all off has slashed 22 home runs. It has been a stellar season for the Georgia native he is on the verge of making SEC history in the closing weeks of the season.

Condon hit two home runs against Tennessee in the final game of the weekend series and his second homer of the game tied former Vanderbilt Commodore Pedro Alvarez's record for most home runs hit by a freshman in a season which he set back in 2006. Condon passed Frank Thomas on the list this past weekend, who was a former Auburn baseball standout and an MLB Hall of Famer.

The Bulldogs have games remaining against South Carolina - Upstate, Missouri, Western Carolina, and LSU. With how well Condon has been playing as of late, it's safe to say that there is a strong chance that Condon will break the SEC record before the 2023 season wraps up.

One of Condon's best games of the season came against Florida a few weeks ago when he hit three home runs and batted five runners in to help lead the Bulldogs to a 13-11 victory over the Gators. The Diamond Dawgs are hoping to close out the 2023 season on a strong note despite their chances of making the NCAA tournament looking to be a long shot.
