The Georgia Bulldogs baseball program has dropped their first SEC series of the season as Kentucky took game two on Saturday.

Following a 9-3 loss to the Kentucky Wildcats, the Georgia Bulldogs baseball program has lost a series for the first time in their 2024 campaign.

After scoring in both of the first two innings, the Wildcats held a three-run lead which would quickly balloon to six runs after six innings. Five different Kentucky batters accounted for an RBI as the offense put together another strong performance following their 16-run performance on Friday.

It was a rough day for the Georgia pitching staff, which allowed a combined 14 hits, nine earned runs and four walks while striking out seven Wildcat batters. But it was starter Leighton Finley that was credited with his first loss of the season after allowing half of the Wildcat's hits and three Kentucky runs while striking out just three in just four innings of work.

All-American Charlie Condon — who was held hitless for just the third time this season — recorded his only RBI on a bases loaded walk in the seventh, which Slate Alford immediately followed with a two-RBI single to bring the Bulldogs within three runs.

However, back-to-back home runs off the bats of James McCoy and Ryan Waldschmidt pushed the Kentucky lead back to five runs just an inning later. To make matters worse, Georgia pitcher Josh Roberge was ejected during the very next at-bat after an errant pitch behind a Wildcat batter.

Following the loss, Georgia now sits at 17-3 (0-2) on the season. The Bulldogs will return to the field on Sunday at 1 p.m. The game will be televised on SEC Network+.
