While Georgia is running hot on the recruiting trail and continues to add big names to their 2024 class, it shouldn't overshadow the list of players that were added to the roster the class prior. The Bulldogs finished with the second-best recruiting class in 2023, and it is littered with players who have the potential to impact Georgia's roster in their first season as a collegiate athletes. One of those players is defensive back, Joenel Aguero.

Coming out of high school, Aguero was rated as a top 50 player in the country and one of the best at his position. He's a former five-star and is someone who quickly inserted themselves into the mix for a major role on Georgia's defense.

Aguero's first season at Georgia comes right after an incredible season by another former true freshman in the secondary from Malaki Starks. He was a staple to Georgia's defense from week one all the way to the national championship game against TCU. Now Aguero looks to be the next first-year player to make a major splash in year one.

Opportunity for playing time was up for grabs in Georgia's secondary when Aguero came on to the roster as former safety Christopher Smith was off to the NFL after an impressive college career. Even with Georgia being loaded down with talent in the back half of the defense, Aguero's versatility as a player is what makes him a freshman to keep an eye on throughout the 2023 season.

During spring practice of this year, it was reported by Dawgs Daily that Aguero was one of several names that were getting worked at both safety and STAR. Having players like Javon Bullard, Malaki Starks, Tykee Smith, and Dan Jackson will allow Georgia to be very multiple and selective with the personnel that they use this year on defense, and with Georgia experimenting with Aguero at both positions this offseason, it indicates that he will have a greater chance of being on the field this year.

Georgia's defensive backroom has the potential to be the best in the country this year with the number of bodies and the surplus of talent that they have to work with in 2023. When a player like Smith leaves the roster, it means a new name will have to step up to help carry the load, and Aguero very well might be the player that gets called upon on Saturdays to make sure Georgia doesn't miss a beat on defense this year.
