Three Defensive Players to Watch for G Day

Three players on defense to watch for Georgia during their spring game scrimmage on Saturday.

We will be getting our first-ever look at Georgia's roster on Saturday during the program's spring scrimmage. The Bulldogs will be featuring some new faces on both sides of the ball, and fans will get their first look at the incoming freshman and transfers that were brought in from the 2023 class. So who are some players to pay attention to on defense for Saturday's game? 

Joenel Aguero, S

With Christopher Smith now off to the NFL, it leaves a wide-open spot in Georgia's secondary. It is expected that Georgia is going to rotate a lot of players in at that safety spot alongside Malaki Starks and true freshman Joenel Aguero will be one of them. He was a five-star prospect and a part of Georgia's 2023 recruiting class and is already in the mix to earn some meaningful snaps come fall. 

Aguero is not only expected to play at safety, but he will probably get some reps at STAR as well. As stated before, Georgia is going to rotate quite a few guys in at that safety spot, including Javon Bullard, which means Aguero will get some run in at the STAR spot. How he handles both positions is something for fans to watch. 

Daylen Everette/Nyland Green 

It has been an absolute battle for that second cornerback spot opposite of Kamari Lassiter. During Georgia's last scrimmage, Daylen Everette, Nyland Green, Julian Humphrey, AJ Harris, and Smoke Bouie all got reps at corner. The Bulldogs are giving everybody that they can a look at that cornerback spot, but Green and Everette appear to be the two ahead of the rest which makes them the two to watch for Saturday. 

It is expected that Georgia will be a pass-heavy offense, as they were last year, during the scrimmage which means the secondary is going to get a lot of work in. And that's a good thing for a team that has a battle on their hands at cornerback. The pressure will be on during Saturday's scrimmage, and fans need to pay attention and watch to see which player rises to the occasion. 

Defensive End

With star defensive end Mykel Williams out this spring due to injury, it has opened the door for other players to get some extra reps in. One of those players is Tramel Walthour, the long-time senior Bulldog. He has been around the program for a while now, and he has a great opportunity to make a statement on Saturday. Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins is another name to pay attention to. He had a great spring game last year, and a repeat type of performance would be huge for him and the team. 

Georgia lost a crucial piece on the defensive line with Jalen Carter no longer in the picture. The Bulldogs know what they have in Williams after his stellar true freshman season, but the more help they can get on the defensive line the better. Walthour and Ingram-Dawkins will probably be the first two names that Georgia rolls out onto the field, but Saturday is a big day for anyone who lines up at defensive end.
