Depth Chart Check Up - Where Does Georgia Stand on Defense
Ahead of Saturday's first spring scrimmage, we take a look at where the Georgia Football depth chart stands on the defensive side of the ball.
The Georgia Bulldogs will put their pads on Thursday afternoon to continue to work to get better for the fifth time this spring practice session. With Saturday expecting to be their first scrimmage of the offseason, we thought it would be a good idea to update the depth chart based on what we have seen, heard, and now know about this Georgia roster.
Georgia Depth Chart - Defense
Nose Tackle
- Nazir Stackhouse, SR
- Jah Jarrett, SO
Junior defensive lineman Christen Miller was in the mix as a hybrid NT/DT last season and is a partial participant this spring but is still recovering from a meniscus surgery. That leaves Naz Stackhouse and Jah Jarrett to take the majority of the reps this spring. Jarrett has remained in tremendous shape after working his first year on campus getting his weight under control. He stands 6'6, 340 pounds this spring.
Defensive Tackle
- Warren Brinson / Jordan Hall
- Xavier McCleod
- Jordan Thomas, FR
- Nnamdi, Ogboko, Fr
Georgia needs a massive season out of Warren Brinson who was at times extremely disruptive at times in 2023. They will need more consistency from the senior as well as a leap from sophomore Jordan Hall. Hall was a five-star prospective in the 2023 signing class. South Carolina transfer Xavier McCleod is a disruptive young football player with SEC experience, he will play a role this fall.

Defensive End
- *Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins
- Mykel Williams, JR
- Gabe Harris, SO
- Joseph Jonah-Ajonye, FR
With Mykel Williams making a move to play both defensive end and JACK this season for the Bulldogs, Georgia's likely starter this fall will be Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins. TID is unavailable this spring after having surgery on his foot, however. That's left a relatively thin room with Gabe Harris and Joseph Jonah-Ajonye seeing a lot of playing time this spring, with Mykel Williams still occupying snaps in this room as well.
OLB
- Mykel Williams, JR

- Damon Wilson, SO
- Sam M'Pemba, SO
- Quintavious Johnson, FR
- *Jalon Walker*
Mykel Williams' entrance into this room only makes it more competitive for already limited snaps. Georgia will likely only play one "outside linebacker" on the field on a majority of the snaps this fall. However, there's plenty of talent and star power to play here. Chaz Chambliss will receive most of his snaps on obvious run-downs, with Mykel, Damon Wilson, Sam M'Pemba, and Jalon Walker receiving the majority of the snaps in obvious passing downs.
STAR
- Joenel Aguero, SO
- Kyron Jones, RFR
- Jacorey Thomas, JR
This position seemed like it was going to be the biggest question mark entering the spring session perhaps on the entire roster. Joenel Aguero was the presumed starter and appears to still be, however, Kyron Jones has made this much more of a competition than most expected. That's good news for a position that needed to see quality depth provided entering the 2024 fall.
Corner Back
- Daylen Everette, JR
- Daniel Harris, SO / Julian Humphrey, RSo
- Ellis Robinson, FR
Daylen Everette seems to have earned the right to be called a starter in this defensive backfield by all accounts, or at least that's the way it appears for now. The only questions continue to be, which one of the uber-talented sophomores in Daniel Harris and Julian Humphrey will be alongside him, and how long can the entire group hold off the No. 1 ranked position player in the 2024 class, Ellis Robinson? It's not a position group bereft of talent, or competition. It's going to continue well into fall camp as well.
Safety
- *Malaki Starks, JR
- David Daniel Sissavahn, SR / Dan Jackson SR
- Jake Pope, JR
- Jacorey Thomas, JR
- Justyn Rhett, SO
- KJ Bolden, FR
With Malaki Starks limited this spring due to shoulder surgery this offseason, it's Travaris Robinson's opportunity to get a look at a relatively deep group fighting to find out who's paired with the preseason All-American. Georgia will have plenty of veteran options as well.
Spring Practice Injury Update
A bit anticlimactic from an injury standpoint today, though Smart did update a few lingering issues. No new injuries it seems:
- WR, Colbie Young is still battling an ankle issue but Smart mentioned he progressed throughout the week last week and should be able to do even more today during their first practice of the week.
- Bo Hughley had left shoulder surgery for a labrum. (out for spring)
- TID had a left foot fracture, he had surgery following the season, will miss spring practice. Will be back for fall camp.
- Kris Jones had surgery on his foot, he will be practicing but will be limited.
- Christen Miller had surgery on his meniscus after the Orange Bowl.
- Smael Mondon underwent surgery for a stress fracture in his foot, he will be ready for fall camp.
- Branson Robinson is at 7 or 8 months recovery, and looks good but will not be ready for spring.
- Malaki Starks had shoulder surgery and will be limited in the spring.
- Rara Thomas is still coming off his foot injury and will not be at full speed.
- Damon Wilson had meniscus repair, he's full activity now.
- Demello Jones is dealing with a hamstring.
- Pearce Spurlin will medically retire due to a heart condition.
