Will Georgia Have a 1,000-yard Rusher in 2024?

Could this be the year the Georgia Bulldogs have their first 1,000-yard rusher since the 2019 season?

Could this be the year the Georgia Bulldogs have their first 1,000-yard rusher since the 2019 season?

For the past few decades, the Georgia Bulldogs have become synonymous with great running backs a strong running game, and extremely talented running backs. But while the talent in the running back room has not decreased, the Bulldogs have gone nearly five seasons without a 1,000-yard rusher.

The last running back to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark was D'andre Swift, who rushed for 1,218 yards during the 2019 season. Since then, a handful of running backs have come close, but none have been able to reach the mark.

While this trend may be alarming to some, it has come with good reason. The Bulldogs passing game has seen a dramatic increase with extremely talented pass catches such as Ladd McConkey and Brock Bowers. In addition, the Dawgs have begun running "by committee" where multiple backs share carries throughout the game.

But 2024 may provide new opportunities for the Georgia offense as the running back room has recently been inflated with new talent. The Bulldogs roster has also gone through some changes as numerous talented receivers have departed for the NFL. This roster overhaul has the potential to cause the Bulldogs to make a slight change in their offensive philosophy.

The Bulldogs 2024 roster is chalked full of talent which provides Kirby Smart and staff to possibly update their their offensive philosophy. While it is unclear whether or not that will result in the team having a 1,000-yard rusher, the team certainly has the ability to produce one.
