Georgia's Biggest Matchups on the 2023 Schedule

A look at Georgia's potential biggest matchup on the 2023 football schedule.

There is quite a bit of time before opening weekend for the 2023 college football season rolls around, but it's never too early to look ahead at what is in store for each team. The Bulldogs schedule for the upcoming year is not as enticing as fans might have hoped it would, but there is potential Georgia to be involved in some big games this year.

Originally, Kirby Smart and his team were set up to play Oklahoma in a cross conference matchup this season, but the SEC then shut that down due to the Sooners nearing their introduction to the conference. Due to that schedule change, the Bulldogs now open up with four straight home games this season and three of those opponents are UT-Martin, Ball State and UAB.

Georgia's schedule is rated as one of the easiest in the country but that doesn't mean the BUlldogs won't be involved in big games this season, at least for the regular season. So here are three games that have the potential to be the biggest matchups for Georgia during the 2023 season.

South Carolina Gamecocks, September 16

It might seem a little odd to have South Carolina listed as one of Georgia's biggest games of the season considering how much they have struggled over the years, but Shane Beamer has that program on the rise. They built up a lot of momentum at the end of their 2022 regular season with a dominating performance over Tennessee in upset fashion and now have their eyes set on building off of that success this season.

South Carolina will also be Georgia's first SEC game of the season and while it will be played at Sanford Stadium, that could become a big test for a team that will have a new quarterback under center along with a new offensive coordinator in Mike Bobo.

It may not be a matchup between two highly ranked teams, but it will be an early test for the reigning national champs.

Ole Miss Rebels, November 11

Any matchup that has Lane Kiffin involved has the potential for a big game. It also will consist of two head coaches who used to work with one another not too long ago at Alabama. The Rebels not yet accomplished any national success under Kiffin, but they have been one of the more competitive teams in the western division for the past few years.

This will be the first time that the Bulldogs and Rebels will have played one another since Kirby Smart's first season at Georgia in 2016 in which Ole Miss blew out the Dawgs. By the time this game rolls around, the regular season will be nearing a close which also means major stakes could be on the line. This game definitely has the potential to be Georgia's biggest home game of the 2023 season.

Tenneessee Volunteers, November 18

Tennessee has risen quickly under head Josh Heupel and looks to be the team that will challenge Georgia for a division title in 2023. Last year's game between these two programs was one of the most highly anticipated matchups of the season, and the Volunteers left Athens with a tough loss on the road.

This will be Georgia's last conference matchup of the season and perfect conference record could be at stake when the time comes for the Bulldogs to travel up to Neyland Stadium. Alabama came away with a loss last season on the road against the Volunteers, and Georgia will be looking to avoid that happening to them in 2023. Both teams will have this one circled on their calendars.
