Jalen Carter Will Not Participate in Workouts at NFL Combine

Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter has elected not to participate in the workout portion at the NFL combine and will instead do so at Georgia's Pro Day.

Georgia has yet another loaded list of athletes on the verge of beginning the next chapter of their football careers, and Jalen Carter is the biggest name of the bunch. The Georgia defensive lineman is seen to be a top overall prospect in this year's draft class, and a future top-five pick by the looks of things.

However, with the NFL combine event starting this week, organizations will have to wait a little longer before they are able to see Carter work out prior to the draft as he has elected to only participate in interviews and the physical at the combine. Instead, he will wait until Georgia's pro day on March 15, according to Carter's agent.

This comes as a bit of a shock considering the amount of interest that NFL teams have in drafting Carter. Oftentimes, workouts at the combine are a great way for prospects to either solidify or increase their draft stock before draft day rolls around. Teams will still get a chance to see how Carter measures out and performs before the NFL draft, just not on the typical national setting in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Carter has plenty of college tape that speaks for how talented of an athlete he is. It's why so many draft analysts are projecting him to go early in the first round. Some have even labeled Carter as a potential number one overall pick which would make it two consecutive years in which a Georgia player was the first name off of the board.

NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper has been on the record saying that Carter is the best prospect in this year's class. "Carter, an explosive interior pass-rusher and run-stuffer, gets the nod over Alabama edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. on my Big Board," said Kiper. "He's the best player in this draft, a Day 1 starter in the middle of this defense."
