Georgia Run Defense to Reach Impressive Before 2023 Season

Kirby Smart and the Georgia defense will reach a milestone this year before the season even starts

Since joining the team in 2016, the Georgia Bulldogs have adopted many different identities. But there is one identity that has remained consistent during that time. A fast, physical, defense that is dominant in the trenches.

Over the past few seasons, Kirby Smart's defensive units have been flat-out elite at stopping teams primarily in the run game. While holding opponents to just a handful of points per game certainly solidifies this statement, there is another statistic that shows why Georgia's defense reigns supreme.

For 913 days and counting, the Georgia Bulldogs have not allowed a single 100-yard rusher in any of their games. The last player to do so was Christian Rodriguez during the Bulldogs' 2020 COVID season. Rodriguez finished the day with 108 yards on 20 total carries. Rodriguez was selected as the 193rd overall pick by the Washington Commanders during the 2023 NFL Draft.

By the time Georgia plays its first game of the season on Sept. 2, this streak will reach a total of 1,036 days. And with the opponents that the Bulldogs will open the season with, this streak may not come to an end any time soon.
