Georgia Upsets Kentucky in Athens 75-68

The Georgia Bulldogs pulled off a terrific upset in Athens as they took down the Kentucky Wildcats 75-68

After an ugly stretch of games in February, the Georgia Bulldogs were able to defeat the Kentucky Wildcats for just the third time in the past 10 years. The final score was 75-68.

The Bulldogs took advantage of Kentucky's extremely slow start to jump to an 8-2 lead. Unfortunately, the Dawgs' stagnant shooting allowed the Wildcats to tie the game at 13. A back-and-forth affair ensued for the next 10 minutes before the Dawgs went on an 8-2 run to give them the lead. Georgia led 42-32 at the half.

Similar to how the first meeting went, the Bulldogs saw their lead wither away in the second half as Kentucky took the lead with just over 11 minutes left in the game. However, unlike the last game, the Dawgs continued to put up a fight. With about 3:30 left in the game, Georgia found themselves up three with a chance to upset the 5th ranked team in the SEC. A robust defensive effort allowed the Dawgs to not only hold onto their lead but extend it to 7 en route to victory.

While Terry Roberts returned to the court for the Dawgs, Kario Oquendo was the leading scorer for Georgia with 21 points and a rebound. He was one of three Bulldogs to finish the afternoon with over 10 points in what was a solid team effort offensively.

The Wildcats were led by the duo of Oscar Tshiebwe and Antonio Reeves. The pair combined for 40 of Kentucky's 68 points. Although Tshiebwe was certainly a factor, his efforts would not be enough to earn the Wildcats a win on the road.

The Bulldogs will be back in Stegman Coliseum this Tuesday to host the LSU Tigers before they travel to Tuscaloosa to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide. They have just three home games remaining this season.
