Glenn Schumann Will Return to Georgia After Interview with Eagles

Georgia's Co-defensive coordinator will return to Georgia for the 2023 season despite interviewing with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Coaches leaving the staff is the territory that comes with winning back-to-back national championships. When a team has as much success as Georgia has of late, everyone wants to know what they are doing and how they are doing at both the college and NFL levels.

Recently, former Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken took the same position with the Baltimore Ravens and Robert Muschamp took a defensive quality control position with the Los Angeles Chargers. There were also reports of co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann interviewing for a position on the Philadelphia Eagles coaching staff, but recent reports have revealed that the Georgia coach will not be heading to the NFL.

Since coming to Georgia following the 2015 season at Alabama, where the now inside linebackers coach at Georgia served in an off-the-field administrative role for the Crimson Tide, he's essentially become the right hand for Georgia head coach Kirby Smart.

It didn't take long for those outside the coaching world to realize what an asset Glenn Schumann has become on Georgia's coaching staff. He is a rising star in the industry, and it's why NFL teams are now showing interest in trying to pluck Schumann from Georgia's staff.

In just his first seven seasons on staff, Schumann has coached two Butkus Award-winners, an award given to the "best linebacker" in college football. Before Schumann, no Georgia linebacker had won the award. He also helped piece together one of the greatest defenses in college football history in 2021.
