Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint In The Midst Of Career-Best Season

Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint's 99-yard performance Saturday has him just 12 yards from matching his career-best season, and there's still six games left in the regular season.

Saturday night was a great night to be a Georgia Bulldog. The squad had its best game of the season, slaughtering Kentucky 51-13 in front of a prime-time audience.

A few Bulldogs had the best performances of their careers, but perhaps none had a performance as sweet and savory as Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint. The senior caught four passes and achieved a career-high 99 yards. His 40-yard touchdown catch on Georgia's opening drive set the tone for the rest of the night.

Rosemy-Jacksaint now has 17 catches for 325 yards this season with two touchdowns. He's already matched his career-high for touchdowns and needs just 12 yards to match his career-high in that category (337 yards in 2022). Georgia is only halfway through the regular season. Barring an injury, Rosemy-Jacksaint will obliterate his career marks.

To appreciate where Rosemy-Jacksaint is now, you have to remember where he's been and the frustrating lows he's had to overcome over his four years in Athens.

Ankle Injury Interrupts Break-Out Performance

The date is November 7, 2020, and the 4-1 Georgia Bulldogs are in Jacksonville to play the Florida Gators. Unfortunately, star wide receiver George Pickens is unavailable, meaning somebody needs to step up in the passing game.

Enter Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint. The true freshman, who was a consensus top-100 prospect, has had a quiet season up to this point, but Pickens' absence creates an opportunity; one that he would make the most of less than four minutes into the game.

Quarterback Stetson Bennett finds him wide-open over the middle. Rosemy-Jacksaint makes the catch and runs the rest of the way into the end zone for a touchdown, giving Georgia a 14-0 lead. But something isn't right. Instead of celebrating his first career touchdown, Rosemy-Jacksaint is in agony on the ground after suffering a gruesome ankle injury. His freshman season is over.

The comeback was a long road for him; he was unable to compete in the 2021 G-Day Game and missed two games early in the season. Rosemy-Jacksaint's sophomore year ended with just seven catches for 94 yards.

Underrated Value

If you just looked at Rosemy-Jacksaint's low stats in 2021, you'd assume that he barely saw the field that year. However, that was not the case because he possesses one quality that Georgia head coach Kirby Smart finds extremely valuable in a wide receiver: He is an outstanding blocker.

Rosemy-Jacksaint saw action in 13 games as a sophomore and started four games. He appeared in all 15 games including eight starts a year ago, and has started each of the last five games after missing the season opener with an injury.

His prowess as a blocker means he rarely leaves the field, which ultimately creates opportunities in the passing game. Rosemy-Jacksaint is converting those opportunities into catches, yards, and touchdowns this year, and he's on track for an amazing senior season.
