More playing time in the future for former Dawg

Jordan Davis’s first full year in the NFL was solid, but I hoped to see Davis on the field more in his rookie season. Well, he is about to get his opportunity.

The Philadelphia Eagles lost Defensive tackle Javon Hargrave to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday. Hargrave signed a four-year deal worth 80 million.

In Davis’s rookie season, there were flashes of how dominant he could be at the next level. He totaled 18 tackles this past season; now, that number is a little deceiving because Jordan Davis provides so much more than the stats say. In Davis’s first NFL game, He played only 22 snaps; in those reps, he helped hold the lions to 2.9 yards on run snaps.

Davis did have his fair share of trouble to deal with in his first pro season. He suffered a high ankle sprain that held him out for several games; he also had to deal with a concussion he sustained versus Dallas in week 16.

Even with all the injuries, Davis was still a valuable asset to the eagles. Now he will be looked at to fill a starting role for Philadelphia with the departure of Hargrave.

If you look at how this situation played out for the Eagles, the plan was for Davis to be the next Great Eagles Defensive lineman. If Davis can put it all together and stay healthy, he could be a dominant force in his second year in the NFL.

Davis was the 2021 Outland Trophy winner, the 2021 Chuck Bednarik Award winner, and a first-team All-American selection. He was also a finalist for the 2021 Bronko Nagurski and Lott IMPACT Trophies (won by Will Anderson of Alabama and Aidan Hutchinson of Michigan, respectively).
