Tre' McKitty named to John Mackey Award Watch List

Graduate transfer, Tre’ McKitty has been named to the John Mackey Award Watch list

During the offseason, former Florida State tight end Tre' McKitty announced that he would be enrolling at the University of Georgia as a graduate transfer for his senior season. There was an open window at the position as both Charlie Woerner and Eli Wolf made their departure for the NFL, so who better to fill that void with than an experienced athlete like Tre' McKitty?

Now entering his final season as a college athlete, McKitty is looking to go out with a bang and along with that possibly be awarded the John Mackey Award. The John Mackey Award is given out annually to the most outstanding tight end in college football and after being named to the award's watchlist McKitty has a chance to become just that.

Since making its debut in 2000, there has never been a Georgia Bulldog to bring the award home to Athens. Perhaps 2020 could be the year.

During his three years at FSU, McKitty caught 50 passes for 520 yards and two touchdowns. Those stats include his most productive season which was in 2018 when he reeled in 26 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns as a sophomore. These stats don't exactly jump off the page when looking at them but with a change in scenery and getting plugged into a new offense McKitty could see a big change in those stats.

Standing at 6 foot 5 inches and 245 pounds, McKitty provides the quarterback with a massive target. In a previous article we posted here on Dawgs Daily at SI, we took a look at Tre McKitty's film and what he is bringing to Georgia and two things we know for sure that McKitty has is a lot of in-game college experience and his urge to be on the field and get to work.

2020 has definitely seemed to be the year of many firsts so it would only be fitting for the graduate transfer tight end Tre' McKitty to be the first Bulldog in history to win the John Mackey Award this year.

Also named on the list was Florida’s Kyle Pitts, Alabama’s Carl Tucker, and LSU’s Arik Gilbert.
