Scouting Look: Georgia Getting Rare Athlete in Elyiss Williams

Georgia fans are used to landing elite athletes under Kirby Smart, but Elyiss Williams could end up being one of the best.

Georgia fans got an early Easter gift on Saturday when Elyiss Williams, a 5-star ATH out of Charlton County (Ga.) committed to the Dawgs. Williams committed to UGA over offers from Florida State, Tennessee, LSU, Notre Dame, and others. Williams joins Jadon Perlotte and Justus Terry as the other 5 stars in UGAs 2025 class.

What exactly is UGA getting in Elyiss Williams? Let's take a look.

Frame

Simply put, there are not many players in the country built like Williams, period. Williams stands at 6'7 235, his size alone makes him a matchup nightmare on the offensive side of the ball. The thing is, he has a somewhat thin build for a prospect at his size. With two more years of development left plus getting work in an SEC weight room when he arrives on campus, Williams could look like an avatar once he takes his first snap at Georgia.

Skillset

Williams is simply an elite athlete. He lines up on both sides of the ball and is also a handful on the basketball court. He is certainly still raw and growing as a football player, but his combination of athleticism and size makes him a handful for anyone he lines up against. Split out at WR, Williams is fast enough to get by defenders and take the top off the defense. For a bigger prospect that still has more development ahead of him, he shows good focus when the ball is in the air and good body control when reeling in the football.

Even if Williams wasn't blessed with elite athletic ability, his size alone offers a wide catch radius for the QB and a physical mismatch for any defender on the field.

Projection

It's clear Kirby Smart and UGA are betting on his upside, and why wouldn't you? Even if he's raw, he is a 6'7 240 pound freak athlete that will give UGA a rare body type in their TE room. Is it a stretch to think Williams can play a similar role that Darnell Washington did at Georgia? I don't think so. Both are similar in size and Williams still has a few years of development ahead of him. If anything, Williams looks like he could be more of a receiving threat than Washington was during his time in Athens.

Anything Todd Hartley touches in the TE room turns to gold. Elyiss Williams should be no different.
