Georgia Tech is going to lose talented freshman guard Akai Fleming. According to On3 Sports Joe Tipton, Fleming plans to enter the transfer portal. Fleming joins a long list of players who have hit the portal in Baye Ndongo, Mouhamed Sylla, Brandon Stores, and Peyton Marshall. Fleming averaged 10.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists during his freshman campaign.

Fleming hit a career-high 20 points on 4-8 shooting against Lafayette. He played some of his best basketball at the end of the season, hitting double-figures in the final four games of the season, including an 18-point game against Clemson. Fleming had 18 games in which he scored in double-figures in 2025. He also earned a starting role for the Yellow Jackets quickly in his freshman season.

Fleming was one of the bright spots this year for the Yellow Jackets as he continued to grow his game and score the basketball at a high level. His ability to get to the free throw and be efficient was big for the Yellow Jackets. Fleming also made a lot of plays towards the end of games, putting the Yellow Jackets in a prime position to pull out victories. What will be missed most is his microwaveable ability to score in a short span of time and ignite quickly. It doesn’t take much to get Fleming to a rhythm and see him score in bunches at a high clip. Here is Fleming on that ability earlier in the season.

“I definitely did feel more comfortable going out there compared to the first game. Having my team uplift me just by telling me to keep going, having Wacie here, and spreading his leadership towards me. So yeah, I definitely felt more comfortable,” said Fleming.

“When I seen the first shot go in, you know, it kind of lit up something in me. My thing is just being able to play both sides of the ball. So when I'm able to play on the defensive, defensive side, it helps me on the offensive side as well.”

Fleming was one of the biggest question marks heading into the transfer portal to see if the Yellow Jackets would retain him or move in a different direction. Georgia Tech will now likely have a complete overhaul of the roster and will be bringing in a new crop of players in the Scott Cross era. Fleming will be a player to watch for in the future with his unique talent.
