Tre Swilling Named to 2020 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List
The Pacific IMPACT Foundation has named Georgia Tech junior defensive back Tre Swilling one of 42 candidates on the 2020 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List.
The upcoming season will be the 17th year presenting the Lott IMPACT Trophy. The Trophy was originally named in honor of former USC defensive back Ronnie Lott - who is a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame and Pro Football Hall of Fame. Lott was also a four-time Super Bowl champion with the San Francisco 49ers.
The acronym "IMPACT" stands for integrity, maturity, performance, academics, community and tenacity. The Lott IMPACT Trophy is awarded to the best college football defensive player each season, and recognizes personal character as well as athletic excellence.
The 2020 watchlist includes 16 linebackers, 15 defensive backs and 11 defensive lineman from a total of 41 different schools. The ACC has nine nominees - including Swilling.
Last season, Swilling was named honorable-mention All-ACC after tying for ninth in the conference with 11 passes defended. He also recorded an interception, 23 tackles and two tackles for loss at the cornerback position as a sophomore. Swilling is also a two-time member of the ACC's all-academic team.
Previous winners for the Lott IMPACT Trophy include DeMeco Ryans (Alabama – 2005), Glenn Dorsey (LSU – 2007), J.J. Watt (Wisconsin – 2010) and Luke Kuechly (Boston College – 2011).
