Georgia Tech Softball Defeats No. 18 Auburn With Walk-Off Home Run

Georgia Tech defeated No. 18 Auburn with a walkoff home run

It was a big day for Georgia Tech Softball, as a nationally ranked Auburn came into Atlanta for a big non-conference matchup. The Yellow Jackets had been playing well heading into this contest and were hoping to earn their fourth-straight victory.

Blake Neleman got the start today for the Yellow Jackets.

It was a low-scoring pitchers' duel today in Atlanta. After three innings, both teams had just one hit each and it was not because either of these offenses is not good. Neleman had a fantastic day on the mound and through the first three innings, she had four strike outs.

Georgia Tech defeated Auburn 2-1

Georgia Tech got a scoring opportunity in the fourth inning after Mallorie Black's triple, GT was not able to bring the runner in and we went to the 5th inning with the game still 0-0.

After a scoreless 5th inning, the Tigers got on the board in the 6th. A solo home run from Jessie Blaine got Auburn a 1-0 lead and it looked like they had more to come. Auburn got a single and then a double and looked like it was going to score a runner, but a great defensive play got the runner out at home and to the bottom of the inning they went.

A leadoff double from Jin Sileo got things started and then Grace Connelly drove her in to tie the game. It was 1-1 heading to the final inning.

After getting a couple of quick outs, Neleman allowed two walks and she was replaced by Chandler Dennis. It was a great outing for Neleman, who recorded seven strikeouts while giving up five hits and walking four. Dennis got the out and Georgia Tech was going to have a chance to win it in the bottom of the 7th.

After Madison Dobbins struck out, Reese Hunter came to the plate and ended the game with a solo home run to give Georgia Tech a 2-1 win over No. 18 Auburn.

The Yellow Jackets open ACC play on the road this weekend in Charlottesville against Virginia. The first game is Friday at 5:00 p.m.
