Big 12 continues 'deep discussions' with Gonzaga: report

The Big 12 is holding its spring meetings this week - and Gonzaga is a hot topic

Gonzaga to the Big 12 is still on the table.

According to Sports Illustrated's Ross Dellenger, Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark continues to have "deep discussions" with Gonzaga about joining the conference.

Gonzaga Nation reported on the Zags' discussions with the Big 12 earlier this year. The conference is looking to add as many as four new schools with Gonzaga, UConn, San Diego State and UNLV being the most likely targets. Yormark and conference officials are also waiting on a Pac-12 TV deal that could result in multiple schools leaving the Pac-12.

The Big 12 is holding its spring meetings Wednesday through Friday in West Virginia, and conference expansion will likely be the main focus.

Gonzaga is reportedly using the consulting firm Navigate to help inform its decision on a potential move from the West Coast Conference to the Big 12 or another Power 5 conference. Navigate has worked with "four of the Power 5 conferences to provide data-driven answers to their most important questions."

With UCLA and USC leaving the Pac-12 in 2024 - and the possibility of more defections after a TV deal is done - Gonzaga is likely biding its time to see which conference offers the best deal.
