Braden Huff's performance at Kentucky 'bodes really, really well for his future as a Zag'

Huff had a huge impact in Gonzaga's biggest win of the season

At various moments this season, Braden Huff has flashed what he's capable of on the offensive end of the floor for the Gonzaga Bulldogs.

The redshirt freshman started the season strong with 42 points combined against Yale and Eastern Oregon. To put it in perspective, only Kevin Pangos had a better start to his Gonzaga career.

Huff also had double-figure scoring nights against some of the Bulldogs' SWAC opponents in nonconference play, as well as a career-high 26 points against San Diego last month and 25 against Portland last week. But when facing stiffer competition, mainly Quad 1 opponents, Huff had struggled.

Until Saturday.

Huff scored 12 points, including a run of four consecutive baskets in the second half, on the road in a hostile Rupp Arena environment. His clutch play down the stretch helped Gonzaga overcome Kentucky, 89-85. It also impressed the CBS broadcast crew and the national television audience watching the game.

"Braden Huff is giving Gonzaga some HIGH quality minutes right now," CBS college basketball reporter Seth Davis wrote on X. "Freshman growing up today before our eyes."

Gonzaga assistant coach Stephen Gentry discussed Huff's breakout performance and much more with former All-American Dan Dickau on an episode of Gonzaga Nation. Watch the full episode in the video above.

"What a response for him. For a redshirt freshman to have that type of response in that big of an environment, I think that’s going to really catapult him for the rest of the season," said Gentry. “That bodes really, really well for his future as a Zag."
