Robert Sacre is against expanding NCAA Tournament: 'You water the level of play down'

NCAA President Charlie Baker said he thinks there is an opportunity to expand the NCAA men's basketball tournament in an interview with ESPN

Former Gonzaga Bulldogs standout center Robert Sacre is not in favor of expanding the NCAA Tournament beyond 68 teams.

The topic of expansion comes up almost yearly around March. NCAA President Charlie Baker recently told ESPN that he thinks there is an opportunity to expand the NCAA men's basketball tournament "if it's done with care." Baker added the NCAA's basketball committee has discussed the idea since last summer, and that an update on the potential change could come before the end of this season's tournament in April.

Many fans and those in the industry believe the 68-team tournament doesn't need to be altered with more spots, including Sacre.

"[The NCAA] can’t add anymore games [to the tournament]," Sacre said on Talking Zags. “It’s a special tournament and yeah they’re always trying to make money off it, it’s just … you water it down, you water the level of play down if you add [teams].”

Sacre discusses the NCAA Tournament and much more with former All-Americans Dan Dickau and Adam Morrison on Talking Zags. Watch the full episode in the video above.
