Drew Timme to undergo season-ending surgery on fractured foot

Former Gonzaga standout suffered the injury on Jan. 26

Drew Timme's first season in the NBA G League is officially over.

The Wisconsin Herd announced Thursday that Timme will undergo season-ending surgery after suffering a fracture in his left foot during a game against Delaware last Friday. Gonzaga Nation confirmed the injury on Tuesday.

Timme appeared in 27 games with the Herd this season and averaged 9.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists while playing 21.8 minutes per game.

The former Gonzaga star had several big games this season, including a 30-point, 10-rebound and 6-assist performance in early December; a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double on Jan. 17 and a 16-point, 15-rebound outing in the G League Showcase finale on Dec. 22. He shot 50% or better on at least five field goal attempts in 16 games.

After going undrafted last summer, Timme signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Milwaukee Bucks in June. The team released the 6-foot-10 Texan after he appeared in two preseason games in October just days before opening night. Roughly a week later, Timme rejoined the organization after signing a two-way contract that placed him on the Bucks' G League affiliate, the Herd.

Two-way deals are one-year contracts, so Timme will be a free agent at the end of the NBA calendar year flips on July 1.

Timme's former Gonzaga teammate Chet Holmgren notably recovered from a Lisfranc injury he suffered after being selected No. 2 overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2022. Holmgren missed what would've been his entire rookie season before returning to the hardwood at the 2023 NBA Summer League, nearly one year after the injury occurred.
