Auburn (27-7, 13-5 SEC) finished second in the SEC regular season standings but landed a 4-seed in the NCAA Tournament after defeating Florida in the SEC Tournament championship.
The Tigers feature one of the best frontcourt duos in the SEC with Johni Broome and Jaylin Williams combining to average nearly 30 points and more than 12 rebounds per game, and they are led by head coach Bruce Pearl, who is notorious for coaching teams that tough across the board and typically strong on defense.
If Auburn can supplement its stingy defense with efficient scoring, the Tigers may be poised to make a deep run in this year's tournament.
Yale (22-9, 11-3 Ivy) is a feisty team that enters March Madness fresh on the heels of winning the Ivy League Tournament and will be looking to pull off a first-round upset like it did in 2016 when the Bulldogs defeated Baylor in the opening round.
Auburn presents a defensive challenge for the Bulldogs, but if they get big games from their two leading scorers -- Danny Wolf (14.3 ppg) and John Poulakidas (13.1 ppg) -- Yale might just survive and advance with another upset under its belt.
The winner of this game will move on to the second round on Sunday where they will take on the winner of (5) San Diego State vs. (12) UAB.
