The Gonzaga Bulldogs head down the stretch of West Coast Conference regular season action with a lot at stake on Thursday when they travel to the Bay Area to battle the San Francisco Dons.
Gonzaga (22-6, 12-2 WCC) has an ample opportunity to boost its at-large NCAA Tournament resume and clinch a triple-bye in the WCC Tournament when it takes the Chase Center floor for a Quad 1 game against San Francisco (22-7, 11-3 WCC), which can leapfrog the Bulldogs for the No. 2 spot in the WCC standings with a win.
The Bulldogs, riding a six-game winning streak, are one of the many teams near or on the bubble to make the NCAA Tournament according to many bracketology experts. ESPN's Joe Lunardi has them as the last team in the projected 68-team field while CBS Sports' Jerry Palm has Gonzaga in his "Last Four In" as well. Fox Sports' Mike DeCourcy has Mark Few's program as a 10-seed in his bracketology.
The Bulldogs took down Santa Clara, 94-81, in the last home game of the season at The Kennel. Graham Ike led with a season-high 26 points, Nolan Hickman had 20 points and five 3-pointers while Ryan Nembhard finished with 17 points, six rebounds and six assists.
The Dons have won seven of their last eight games since losing to the Bulldogs, 77-72, in Spokane. San Francisco downed Pepperdine, 92-68, on Saturday as it shot 59.7% from the field and went 12-of-25 from 3-point range. Ndewedo Newbury led with 19 points and five rebounds.
Thursday's matchup features two of the best offenses in the WCC. Gonzaga and San Francisco rank one and two in the league in scoring and field goal percentage.
