Talking Zags: Adam Morrison, Dan Dickau analyze Gonzaga's roster and schedule

Does Gonzaga have too much depth?

Once again, Mark Few might have the best problem he could ask for as head coach of the Gonzaga men's basketball program.

Despite the departures of last year's stars Drew Timme and Julian Strawther, the Zags reloaded through the transfer portal and international recruiting additions during the 2023 offseason. First came the trio of transfers in Steele Venters (Eastern Washington), Ryan Nembhard (Creighton) and Graham Ike (Wyoming). Few then landed late additions Luka Krajnovic (Croatia) and Pavle Stosic (Serbia). Combine that with four returners — Anton Watson, Ben Gregg, Braden Huff and Nolan Hickman — along with sophomore transfer Jun Seok Yeo on the wing, and the Zags have ample depth.

Almost too much depth, actually, as Few and the coaching staff will have the hard task of narrowing down the roster into an eight-man rotation before the rigorous nonconference schedule hits.

One position battle to watch is the wing. Venters, the reigning Big Sky Player of the Year, has valuable experience over the freshman Dusty Stromer, but don't rule out the former four-star recruit as a potential starter either. In fact, with the nature of the transfer portal, Stromer's future with the program could hinge on his role as a freshman.
