Grambling State's legendary baseball coach, Wilbert Ellis, will be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.

Grambling State's legendary baseball coach, Wilbert Ellis, will be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. Ellis will receive the Louisiana Sports Ambassador Award, becoming only the second person to be honored with this recognition. Ellis served as the Head Baseball Coach and Assistant Baseball Coach for the Tigers for 43 seasons from 1936-1977.

Ellis will be enshrined with the Class of 2024, which includes notable sports inductees such as Drew Brees, Daniel Cormier, Seimone Augustus, Kevin Jackson, Perry Clark, Kerry Joseph, Frank Monica, and Ray Sibille.

He is also a 2006 American Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame inductee.

After leading Grambling State University's baseball program to three Southwestern Athletic Conference titles, five SWAC Western Division crowns, and three NCAA Tournament appearances, Ellis retired in 2003 with a 743-463-1 record. In March 2023, the program retired his jersey.
