Illinois Blows Late Lead In Loss On The Road To Penn State

The Illinois Fighting Illini fell to Penn State Wednesday despite 35 points from Terrence Shannon

At one point, the Illinois Fighting Illini were comfortably ahead in Wednesday's game against Penn State.

And then everything went wrong.

The Illini blew a 14-point, second-half lead in a 90-89 loss to the Nittany Lions. The defeat spoiled a 35-point performance by guard Terrence Shannon Jr. Marcus Domask also had 15 points.

“They never quit, they never laid down,” Illini coach Brad Underwood said. “Tremendous atmosphere and environment. That created a nice buzz and atmosphere.”

The loss dropped the Illini to 19-7 overall and 10-5 in the Big Ten.

Nick Kern Jr., led the Nittany Lions with a career-high 22 points. Their victory snapped a three-game losing streak. Penn State closed the game with an 8-0 run.

The Illini return to action Saturday at home against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Tip is 1:15 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
