Last year Illinois Fighting Illini guard Terrence Shannon had no idea what to expect when experiencing his first Braggin' Rights Game against Missouri.

"I found out a little bit about it at Media Day," Shannon said. "I didn't really know much about it but I know all about it now."

With the latest edition of the rivalry, Shannon made sure the Illini newcomers know all about it, too. He doesn't want them entering blind like he did. He says they will feel like "they were part of the team last year."

The newcomers include Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn, Amani Hansberry, Marcus Domask, Quincy Guerrier, and Justin Harmon.

"I've been thinking about this game for quite a bit now," Shannon said. "Even before it came up, it was one of the games I remembered after the season was over."

The reason is because the Illini lost 88-63 a year ago. It was their fourth defeat in the last five games of the series.

"It wasn't good last year," Shannon said. "We were losing pretty bad. I could hear some of our fans booing. You're hearing the "Mizzou" chants."

Between Shannon and coach Brad Underwood, the Illini should have all the preparation needed to put them in position to avoid a repeat of last year.

"Coach Brad is doing a good job of reminding us what happened last year, so we can come out with a edge coming into the game," Shannon said.
