Marcus Domask's 31 Points Leads Illinois Past Wisconsin

Wisconsin native Marcus Domask leads the University of Illinois to a victory against Wisconsin

Wisconsin native Marcus Domask made sure to perform well when he played in his home state.

He scored a game-high 31 points to lead the University of Illinois to a 91-83 victory against the Badgers Saturday in Madison.

“There were a lot of people that put on an Illinois shirt for the first time today,” Domask said. “And they told me that they loved it, loved the game, but they're never putting it on again.”

Domask grew up nearby in Waupun, Wisconsin, which is about 60 miles away. He helped lead the Illini to a sixth straight victory against the Badgers.

“To come home, most guys get a little amped, get a little nervous, and that becomes the moment, is worrying about all that other stuff,” Illinois coach Brad Underwood said. “He just focuses on the game, and that's a unique quality, it really is.”

Illini guard Terrence Shannon also had 23 points. The win improved them to 22-7 overall and 13-5 in the Big Ten. They are two games behind Purdue for the lead. Both teams play against each other Tuesday.

"He had a great game today," UW's Tyler Wahl said. "I gave him maybe a couple of easy baskets but for the most part he was hitting some tough shots, especially with the left hand. So, you’ve got to tip your hat to that."
