Terrence Shannon Scores 31 Points To Lead Illinois In Rout Of Michigan

Behind Terrence Shannon, the Illinois Fighting Illini defeated Michigan 97-68 Tuesday in Champaign

Michigan coach Juwan Howard was well aware of the talents of Illinois guard Terrence Shannon.

On Tuesday, Howard got to see them up close and personal.

Shannon had a game-high 31 points to lead Illinois to a 97-68 victory at State Farm Center. The Illini improved to 18-6 overall and 9-4 in the Big Ten.

“Very familiar with Terrence Shannon,” Howard said. “You’re welcome. You’re welcome. Terrence Shannon is a guy I recruited who committed to the University of Michigan, as you all are very aware of, and you’re welcome. He’s played extremely well since he’s been here, and I’m so proud of him.”

Shannon shot 11 of 15 from the field, including 5 of 8 from the three-point line. It was his third 20-point game in the last four.

“He’s a guy that has to want to be that guy,” Illinois coach Brad Underwood said. “Terrence is going to score 20 most nights just by being out there. That’s his impact on us. Everything starts on the defensive side.

Coleman Hawkins had 17 points while Marcus Domask added 13 and Quincy Guerrier finished with 10 but the story was Shannon. He scored in double-figures for a 28th straight game.

“He was a great catch-and-shoot guy spacing the floor and handling the ball," Hawkins said of Shannon. "I thought Terrence did a a really good job just all around doing a little bit of everything.”

The Illini return to action Saturday at Maryland.
