BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Multiple sources have confirmed to me that former Indiana basketball coach Bob Knight will indeed return to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Saturday when Indiana takes on Purdue.

The former Indiana coach, who was fired in 2000 after 29 years and three national championships, has not stepped foot in the building where he became a coaching legend in those two decades since.

Knight moved back to Bloomington last year, and he has been seen around town many times since then. But despite much conjecture on several occasions, he has never returned for a game at Assembly Hall.

Former Boilermakers coach Gene Keady will be at the game against the Hoosiers as well. The 1980 Indiana team that won the Big Ten championship with Mike Woodson and Isiah Thomas and was coached by Knight is being honored at halftime, and several players from other great Knight teams are in town for the event.

Indiana fans have been waiting for Knight to return to Assembly Hall for all of this time, but his frosty relationship with the school after his firing has been too much to overcome. At long last, that frostiness is finally starting to thaw.

Saturday’s game starts at 2 p.m. ET. The game is being televised by ESPN

How bad off does a team have to be when they welcome back a disgraced 'coach' that bragged about assaulting students & players?

Why would you go and bring race into the discussion? What a douchebag. Knight is/was a sick puppy. Listen to the interview with Dan Patrick where he wishes death on all of his old bosses at Indiana University.

Bobby Knight

Was destroyed by leftist who came to Indiana and couldn’t stand a strong white male. There’s nothing proper about the way he was treated,
Since his firing Indiana Basketball hasn’t been the same, not even close
So I hope all those who destroyed our once proud program are happy.
You won, you destroyed everything that was good about Indiana and basketball.
If my son walked by and said “what up Knight” and coach reprimanded him for disrespect I would have grabbed him by the arm and dragged him to coach to apologize. Not call CNN and claim BS, what a farce the jackass kids father worked for ESPN, oh that wasn’t a set up!
Coach did nothing wrong, so a big F U to CNN, Myles Brand, Chris Simpson, and all those involved in destroying the once proud IU men’s college team.
If Indians really cares about mending fences they would hire a Knight descendant to carry the torch instead of these dog coaches that shouldn’t coach a biddy b ball team

Obviously as a Purdue fan I have my own views and opinion's of Bobby Knight. One of them is respect. Bobby was a WINNER. He was a GREAT coach and made IU Basketball what it is or is (or isn't which is what IU basketball has been since he was fired) today. What the real problem is here, is that you are just a little too sensitive. Exactly where are you being affected by this? If you don't like it well, don't watch the game! I said good day.

I'm not an IU professor. But some reporter should interview IU's professors and see what they think about Bobby coming back on to the campus.

I'm writing this on February 7, 2020, at 10:10 P.M.

Please explain to me how a man who was fired for what Knight was fired for, is allowed anywhere near his former campus, for any reason. He was fired for violating the zero-tolerance policy. "Knight was fired a few months later after grabbing the arm of an IU student outside Assembly Hall." What if Knight gets angry at something that occurs during the game and assaults a student?

Indiana's counsel will need a lot of explaining to do, to convince people that Knight was not only allowed near the campus, and then on the campus, and then in to what is his former work area(!) despite his history of "anger," because........?!

Oh for gods sake. Do you really think that every university employee who is fired for violating some "zero tolerance" policy is permanently banned from walking on campus? (hint: answer is no). IU professors have nothing to do with this. He grabbed some kid by the arm 20 years ago, and was rightly fired. He didn't rip the kid's arm off and beat him senseless with it. Alarmist much?

Hopefully, you have no affiliation with the university, because you are clueless.

Oh c’mon now your being too humble. Your virtuous sanctimonious reply is well inline with the pathetic assembly of self righteous profs poisoning IU ,among a plethora of universities, with non-objective syllabuses teaching students corrupt notions planting foundations for hack socialism/communist disinformation to gain control of what is less becoming a free-thinking society eager for discourse. Good job professor, for NOT teaching, but forming! You and your dog whistle reply.

I’m very proud of my IU BA obtained in that liberal commie socialistic debauched bastion called Bloomington. One of my political science professors was an Army Ranger in WW2 and had enlightening classes on social and workplace democracy. While analytically critical of America, he loved his adopted country. I think of him often. Go Hoosiers!

Interesting how the reply’s are self-centered orientated and unwillingly to grasp what’s happening around them. Good for yourself well than that’s what it’s all about right? Good grief open your minds and judge yourself by if you’ve left a better place for all. How did that work out for Neil and Miles and IU as a whole? Not as well as the achievements of well known Knight players as well as obscure ones who have enormously succeeded and left in their wake success people.

The person that would derive the most good from that in my opinion, would be Robert Montgomery Knight! It is time Coach, we Hoosiers love you!
